A family tradition.
Every Friday for as long as I can remember, my dad would take me and my brother to Mcdonald's for breakfast. I'm not quite sure when it started - maybe he had a craving for a number one that day and he just couldn't contain himself, and alas we found ourselves at our neighbourhood joint that one Friday morning. This one in particular had a spectacular Play Place, you could even eat on the second floor - which you KNOW is where we forced him to eat. My dad worked from home, and so our Friday tradition happened each week, it was really lovely, I truly feel blessed that my childhood was filled with a very present dad, especially because this now started a new tradition and I for one, am obsessed with traditions.
Fast forward 28 years later, when Matt and I moved from downtown Dartmouth to Hubley a part of me knew I was going to miss the hustle and bustle. Thankfully, I've grown up a country girl, living out my childhood at my cottage and it wasn't too scary of a leap. When we first moved there Kaia was only 8 months old, and on mornings when she would wake up way WAY too early (UGH GIRLFRIEND) I would hop in the car and head up to the strip mall by our place. I liked seeing all the people getting their morning coffee, or hopping on the bus to get to work. I'd almost always roll through the Drive-thru and grab myself a coffee and a hashbrown. I have and always will be a huge Mcdonald's fan. Matthew's first job was at that exact one in Hubley and he would always tell me how great of a first gig it was. That everyone was respectful and awesome to work with.
ANYWAYS, I trailed off, WHAT.A.SURPRISE - once Kaia started getting a little bit older and could play in the Play Place we decided that every Friday morning we would head over there before the library and create a new family tradition piggybacking off of an old one.
However, and this a big however, as of late we have had to switch up our Friday AM dates to PM dates because a couple of the new items on their new limited-time offer menu are too good to pass up.
Let's get right down to business and show them off.
Maple & Cheddar Seriously Chicken Sandwich - Available just for the holidays, it features a crispy (or grilled!) 100% chicken breast, topped with a maple mustard sauce, a slice of natural cheddar cheese, crispy onions, a slice of tomato, leaf lettuce and mayo - all served on a toasted brioche style bun.
Parmesan & Garlic Seasoned Fries (yes, you read that correctly) - McDonald's fries drizzled with butter and tossed in a blend of grated parmesan, garlic, sea salt, black pepper and parsley seasoning.
Caramel Chocolate Shortbread McFlurry - Shortbread cookie crumble, rich chocolate s and caramel sauce swirled into cool creamy vanilla soft serve.
K WELL I'M OFFICIALLY STARVING. Someone remind me to never write a blog post again about food when I am this hungry.
I think I'm done writing now, I'm far too hungry to concentrate, I just really want to firstly tell you to start some family traditions and secondly, to go and stuff your face in some deliciousness.
Disclosure: I was compensated by McDonald’s Canada for this post, but all views and opinions are my own
