The greatest parent hack of all time.
Now we can all pretend that we don’t let our toddlers use our electronic devices, go ahead, whatever makes you sleep well at night (HAHA, that’s a joke, we all know you don’t sleep) – but the truth of the matter is, their tiny little fingers can be a bit of life a ruiner to your precious phones.
Sadly, I have to start off by saying this blog post will only work for anyone with an apple product, android is going to have to take a backseat on this one. I’m sure there is a way to figure it out but since I’m team iPhone I didn’t really look into anything else (terrible person alert).
OK, so you know when you’re Face-timing Grandma and your tiny human will press that home button and ruin everything? Or, another example – when they’re watching a show on YouTube and within 13 seconds they have turned it off and ventured through your camera roll? WELL, worry no more, I have discovered the greatest phone hack of all.
The other day Matt hollered at me “WHY haven’t they created a way to lock the YouTube screen yet from a screaming toddler?” Good question there my love, why haven’t they? I always used to wonder the exact same thing. So I looked into it, and guess what? They do have a trick, a very very wonderful trick that I would like to share with all of you. Doing this will allow you to keep your iPhone in a single app and control which features are available.
Follow these super basic instructions and watch how quickly your life will change.
SETTINGS - click it.
General, open it.
Accessibility, get into it.
Open Guided Access, you're almost done!
Turn it on and voila! You’ll have to enter a passcode every time you want to use it so that your little one can’t do it themselves.
Once you’ve turned it on, try it out. Open any app and triple click the home button. Then, put in your password and ta da! Your little one is officially unable to delete all of your text messages and precious pictures ie., your first day home from the hospital. Hopefully this is as exciting of a discovery for you as it was for me, if this is old news then I guess I clearly need to get with the times. Either way, Happy Sunday!
